Foursome Face Off: Air Purifiers for the Home

Ok, it’s time for an update – since last time there are 2 new contenders: highly rated Whirlpool and Honeywell air purifiers have been put right to work.

Amazon's #1 Best Seller – Only $100

GermGuardian – Amazon’s #1 Best Seller, $100

One lesson learned so far: match the capabilities of the unit to the size of the room.

For example, here in my increasingly air purified domicile, the GermGuardian AC4825 (CADR 100+, Amazon’s #1 Best Seller, smallest filter of all 4 air purifiers, $100) has been bumped to the entry hallway where its abilities, as noted in the 100 Clean Air Delivery Rating (CADR), are better suited to the narrow hallway.

The newly arrived Whirlpool AP51030K Whispure True Hepa Air Purifier, (Slate Black, CADR 315, $294) took over in the bedroom and it’s to up the job — it’s designed to move lots of air. Low speed on the Whirlpool is like medium on the other units. Medium means more noise though. The Whirlpool was the first unit in the door here with a turbo mode fan speed – I haven’t felt the urgency to spend much time in this mode – I want peace and quiet with my purified air. Functional for sure, some might say the Whirlpool is utilitarian looking, especially in black.

Thinking about an air purifier for your home or office?

Think big – you’re gonna need more than one device to achieve the desired effect we all seek – clean air to breathe. In my case I like running 4 purifiers on these recent warm spring days. And I know exactly where the 5th unit’s going. I’ll be acquiring a second of one of these air purifiers, I don’t know which one yet though.

While we’re both waiting to see what beneficial effects these units bestow, start thinking color schemes. Harmony at home is multifaceted – you’ll want a nice looking unit, especially if you’ll be placing 2 of these items in your already cramped living room-kitchen-dining room. White or black, even blue – how will you find feng shui with these utilitarian gadgets? So far my wife is less discriminating – she made up her mind some time ago. To her they all address the issue, yet one of these 4 stands out in the “Outstanding good looks” category. Discuss that next time?

I still have more to learn, so I’ll bring you an update in a few days. Let these fans fly and see if I’m sneezing less. We’ve got more to discuss: I’ve done some research on a $25 solution – the Honeywell weighs in, more tech terms so you can be sure to find the right unit for your room – all that and more next time!
