The DEQ is doing a road show, sharing their initial recommendations from the Woodsmoke Workgroup in 8 cities across Oregon. Today I drove out to La Grande for the 6 o’clock presentation; the long drive made sense, as I would stay over and attend the Pendleton hearing Wednesday night.
I’ve attended 3 out of 4 of the earlier Woodsmoke sessions, in Eugene and Bend, where I’ve learned a lot about this intractable issue. The DEQ was mobilized to undertake this assessment of woodsmoke based on House Bill 3068 which nominated several stakeholders as it tasked the agency to come up with recommendations.
I’d seen Rachel Sakata make this same presentation to the Senate Interim Committee on Environment and Natural Resources last month, but I was intrigued to see the reaction she’d get from these Eastern Oregon outposts.
